Chapter Summaries

Your Weight-Management University-101 curriculum is designed to progress sequentially through the basics of human physiology and, in particular, the positive effects of proper nutrition and exercise as they relate to body composition.

  • Basic Physiology:  In this chapter, the actual secret to long-term, health and weight-management is revealed.  It’s not really a secret but you’d think it is considering how many so-called health experts don’t talk about it.
  • Digestion Do you know the process of digestion?  Most people don’t.  This chapter covers the overall basic process and how your system processes food.  Sort of like a sophisticated food processor.
  • Carbohydrate According to some scientists, Mother Nature’s process of making carbohydrate is nothing short of a miracle.  And, the truth is, we still don’t totally understand it.  However, what we do know is your body’s requirement for carbohydrate as a fuel.
  • Protein: Sure, everyone needs protein… but, why?  Should you be taking a protein supplement?  What are incomplete proteins and how do they affect your exercise program?  All your questions about protein are answered in this chapter.
  • Fat:  Fat gets a bad rap.  Lots of people think all fat is bad.  But, that’s just not true.  Some fats are good for you.  In fact, your body needs fat in order to function.  In this chapter you’ll learn the truth about fat.
  • Aerobic Exercise:  When most people hear the word “aerobic” they immediately think of “cardio.”  And, they’re right.  But, it goes much further than that.  When it comes to long-term, permanent weight-management and overall health, aerobic activity is an important part of the game plan.
  • Anaerobic Exercise:  Oh yes, we explain the difference.  And, you may be surprised to learn that some exercises you thought were aerobic are actually anaerobic.  And, while were at it, we explain the lactic acid system, too!
  • Vitamins:  Perhaps nothing causes as much confusion as vitamins and their role in our bodies.   Are vitamins foods?  Do they give us energy?  We’ll explain once and for all what vitamins are, where they come from and what they do.
  • Minerals: There are major minerals and trace minerals. Both have very important roles in how your body functions.   Everything from controlling body fluids to normalizing nerve function.  It’s all there.
  • Weight Training:  Call it weight-training or resistance workouts, it’s equally important as your cardio sessions.  That’s right.  When it comes to changing body-composition we’ll explain how you’ll benefit from a balance of both cardio and resistance training.
  • Stress:  Yes, stress can have a real impact on your weight-management program as well as your overall health.  And, there are different kinds of stress.  We discuss them all and put stress into perspective.
  • The Danger Zone:  This chapter is all about food technology.  From additives and flavorings to preservatives and GMOs.   Increasing your knowledge about foods will change your life!
